Average Cost of LASIK Eye Surgery in Colorado

Humans have been wearing glasses for centuries. In about 1284, in Italy, the first pair of wearable glasses was invented by Salvino D’Armate. It was obvious back then that some people had serious complications that hindered their ability to see correctly and something needed to be done.

During the 1800s you bought glasses my going into a store and choosing what worked out of a box of many eyeglasses. The cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $5-$150.

Contact lenses have been around since about 1845. F.E. Muller of Germany created a protective lens of a man whose eyelid had been destroyed by cancer. The lens lasted 20 years until his death.

Although photorefractive keratectomy (laser eye surgery) had been in use for some time, LASIK eye surgery, involving raising a flap of the cornea, received it FDA approval in 1992. Today, many people have had this procedure and are happy that they did. They no longer depend on eyeglasses or contact lenses, and they can see perfectly. Sometimes up to 20/15 vision, which is better than 20/20.

The cost of LASIK can vary depending on the surgeon performing the surgery, the prescription treated, the type of procedure and laser used, and the offices providing it. It will also vary from state to state. The average cost for LASIK in Colorado will typically range between $1000 and $3000 per eye. What makes up the difference in the cost? Some clinics will not own their own lasers outright. They are renting them and have to include the cost of that payment as part of their business model. Sometimes doctors performing LASIK have to pay co-management fees to referring doctors.

Some clinics do LASIK on a part-time basis. For that reason, the laser might be an additional expense. Other clinics do LASIK exclusively, only their own equipment, and can afford to charge lower prices. Still other clinics have such things as pre-oop, post-op care, surgeons fees, and facility fees. Which can all add up.
